Mary Ingham’s interest in family history was aroused during research for her first book, NOW WE ARE THIRTY: women of the breakthrough generation, which explored women’s changing lives over the course of the 20th century and two world wars.

After First World War women’s service records began to be released in the 1990s, she became enthusiastic to encourage interest in women ancestors and started a specialist research service on nursing ancestors and WW1 service women. In this, her third book, she passes on much of the knowledge acquired through 15 years of researching these records.

A former social worker and journalist, Mary Ingham is married and lives in Kent.
